Lime Yellow Fish Cut Lehenga with 3D Floral Hand Embroidery

The flowers are constructed, not embroidered flat. Each petal is cut, folded and set proud of the ground, worked with pearl and bead at the centre and stems raised in green cord, so the botanical reads in relief rather than in outline. The placement follows a logic: the work rises from the hem of the fitted section and thins as it climbs, dense at the knee, sparse at the waist, the way a garden grows rather than the way a border repeats. Lilac, turquoise, blush, ivory, sage. Laid over chartreuse.

The cut is fish, and deliberately loose — held at the hip, released through the thigh rather than tensioned across it, which is the harder version of the silhouette to draft and the only version that permits movement. Below the knee it breaks into pleated ruffle tiers set at uneven lengths, so the hem falls in layers rather than a single line and the eye reads depth where a conventional flare would read circumference. Above, restraint. A sleeveless bodice with a notched square neck and wide embroidered straps, cropped clean at the ribcage, with the back left plain but for a horizontal band — no lacing, no keyhole, nothing competing with the front. The dupatta is finished with a scalloped edge outlined in fine bead and scattered with small florals, sheer enough that the skirt reads through it.

Made for haldi — an outdoor morning, a colour that holds its own in daylight, a skirt that permits sitting on the floor. A shrug can be cut to order, and the palette is open to commission.
